Finding Balance: Putting off something that works in my favor
Finishing to read a book on leadership has been a daunting task that I have been avoiding. It is such a shame that I encourage my students to read. Yet, here I am who has become reluctant to dive into a book. The primary reason is the anticipated impact it will have on me.
Leadership is a not a popular topic, although I find it interesting. With each page I turn, I gain a new understanding of what it means to be a leader. The things I pick up from this book is slowly building an ideal picture of a leader in mind. While I may occasionally dip my toes into leadership activities, I have not yet fully embraced this responsibility. I find it quite irrelevant to me because I am not currently in a significant leadership role.
This new found understanding of leadership, while enlightening, has also bred in me a sense of skepticism. As I encounter leaders in my daily life, I find myself quick to judge their actions. Critiquing their actions can create conflict and hinder effective teamwork. Pointing out issues with the way leaders do things can be risky and land you in trouble. I need to be careful. 🤐🚫
To mitigate these consequences, I have chosen to step away from the leadership book for the time being. Instead, I am reading lighter material that provides a mental break from the heaviness of the subject. This has helped me respond better to leaders despite my questions about leadership skills.
