Our primary footwear we call, “tsinelas” or “slippers” are simple rubber sandals worn everyday. Over time its use has evolved!
A frustrated Filipino mom might hurl it like a Frisbee at her child who’s dodging chores. Or, in a more traditional approach, she might use it as a gentle “persuasive tool” (pamalo) to encourage her kids to behave.
It has also been used for slipper game, an adaptation of baseball but replacing the ball the bat with slippers. Sometimes, kids would use them creatively as knee pads when pretending to walk with four legs.
In addition, I like to wear hair clamps. That eases me and makes me finish a lot of work in a day without my hair bothering me. They can also be used as wire binders, or curtain ties.
Simple, everyday things are often popular because of their flexibility and versatility. They can be easily adapted to fit a variety of uses and situations. This adaptability makes them convenient and practical to use.
