If you had the power to change one law, what would it be and why?
Diplomatic Law
Candy P., a Filipino actress and comedian, made a joke on the term “Igorot” in 2009, without fully knowing its definition. The joke was treated as degoratory and made the region declare her as persona non grata.
It caused her so much grief and despite numerous apologies, it did not change the decision. Years after that, she strived to mend her connection to the region by charitable works. Overtime, it was lifted and she is once more welcomed.
This law is sometimes unreasonable and appears inconsiderate when the case is not really severe. In Candy’s case, it was not out of violence that she experienced such verdict. This law should be applied to people committing violence and persistent crimes.
