My middle name is that of my mother’s father, my grandfather, while my family name comes from my father’s great-grandfather. In our tribe, middle names and family names carry patriarchal significance. While these individuals may not have been prominent in politics, religion, or the economy, we carry their names to honor the goodness they demonstrated during their lives.
