“Leaders are born, not made” or “Leaders are made, not born”?
I have simple experience in leadership, first in primary school as a member of Girls’ Scout. In middle school/high school, I have been a member of the Supreme Student’s Government (SSG), alongside with church leadership responsibilities. I have also been to leadership conferences, trainings, and workshops. Despite all that, I still feel that I am yet a leader. What I have seen in the field of leadership as the most challenging is understanding people’s dynamics.
As a result, I have reflected on this challenge and thought about “How can I love the people I lead more when my patience is depleting?”
Here’s a poem I have written reckoning this experience.
When love is patient…
It bears and endures with a strength so immense,
Its source unseen, but deeply intense.
It covers the flaws, ugliness, offense,
And shields all weakness without recompense.
It waits for the moment to speak or be still,
Correcting with grace, not bending the will.
It sees through the layers, resists quick surmise,
Avoids making judgment through hasty disguise.
It waits—through the seasons, through sunshine and rain,
across oceans and skies, through rainbows and pain.
Yet here I sigh… my love, it could wait no more
impatience crept in, right through the door.
