Greetings, fascinating and enigmatic land! You captivated my imagination from a tender age. In a narrative for a church’s Sunday school scribed within the pages of the Book of Genesis, I first encountered your name when I stumbled upon the story of the resilient man named “Joseph“. Intrigued by the story of this resolute figure, my curiosity about your land was awaken, embarking me on a journey of discovery that has only deepened my wonderment.
And he said, “Indeed I have heard that there is grain in Egypt; go down to that place and buy for us there, that we may live and not die.” Genesis 42:2
With each passing year, the enchantment of Egypt unfurled before me. In middle school, I delved into your illustrious history, uncovering a treasure trove of knowledge. The mighty Nile River, pulsating with life and brimming with ancient wisdom, was where human civilization first flourished. Your hieroglyphs, a labyrinthine script that defied deciphering for centuries, became a window into a past that was both awe-inspiring and enigmatic.

As my education blossomed, so did my fascination with King Tutankhamun, the youthful pharaoh whose phenomenal legacy had been entombed in the sands of time. The intricacies of his burial chamber, the tale of his brief but impactful reign, and the vivid impression of his life all enthralled me. In this legendary ruler, I beheld a paragon of resilience and leadership, a testament to the enduring allure of your rich heritage.
On one particular Women’s Day, my quest for empowerment led me to unearth a beacon of inspiration: Queen Nefertiti. Though she shaved her head bare, her physical beauty emanates from within like a fierce flame. Her audacity to buck societal norms further amplified her luminosity. The depths of her intellect and political prowess stood out, captivating me with an ecstasy of admiration. It was in that moment that I realized the true power of a woman’s spirit.

Today, I embarked on a journey that transported me, if only for a fleeting moment, to the vibrant soul of your country. In a Southeast Asian restaurant bearing the name “Ali Baba,” a portal opened, allowing me to savor the tantalizing spices and scents of your cuisine. The flavorful extravaganza offered a brief escape from the week’s challenges. With dear friends, we marveled at the intricate flavors and blended aromas that danced on my palate. For this brief respite, I found myself in a place where east and west intertwined, where a piece of Egypt found a home in my heart.
As my eyes feasted on the spread before me, my heart leapt at the sight of the steaming, aromatic Arabian tea, the perfect accompaniment to digestion. A hearty portion of falafel, plump and round like delicate muffins, paired with a creamy, warm bread elicited a chorus of satisfaction from my taste buds. The bright green sauce, harmoniously blending with the flavors of the dish, was a symphony in my mouth. The sumptuous biryani was a revelation, its tender lamb the crown jewel of the meal.
