What’s the trait you value most about yourself?

I recall a time when my sensitivity was criticized and gaslighted by a peer: branding me “balat sibuyas”Β (onion-skinned),Β  who thought it was a weakness to be ridiculed and made light of. In an effort to avoid further conflict, I steered clear of this individual and their hurtful words, suppressing my true self in the process.

Shamed by their judgment, I tried to reinvent myself, concealing my natural empathic qualities. However, I came to realize that certain aspects of who we are cannot be erased, for they are the very traits that make us unique, authentic, and distinctive.

Embarking on a journey of self-discovery, I learned to embrace my sensitivity, recognizing it as an asset rather than a liability. This realization led me to appreciate the benefits of my intuitive nature, enabling me to lend a listening ear to those in need, offering support and understanding as a confidant.

I soon came to realize that sensitivity is not a weakness but rather a strength, fostering empathy and compassion in me, allowing me to connect with others on a deeper level.
