What were your parents doing at your age?
Free Verse Poem
Tweens and toddlers
growing together
in the village of miners.
Seven little heads,
she liken him to Father Abraham,
in a song, who has seven sons,
but in the village of miners.
He, a lackadaisical miner,
She, a passionate pedagogue,
built a family, a home by the cliffs
in the village of miners.
Working together to meet the needs,
earning and spending, never saving,
risking the future while rearing the children
in the village of miners.
Seems young in their thirties,
but always exhausted as if fifties,
Wants and recreation denied,
neglecting the heart and the mind,
a family yet an overwhelming mob,
so much to have, less to give,
in the village of miners.
