“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, ⁷ rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” -Colossians 2:6-7

Our daily walk in Christ is not perfect, just as waves are never perfectly straight, even when they are at rest. Sometimes we can be at the highest point of a wave, called the crest, and sometimes we can be at the lowest point, called the trough.

As we grow in Christ, let us be willing to be deeply rooted in Him and continue growing so that we can stand firmly and remain stable. Different seasons may bring countless challenges and distractions. Apparently, we cannot simply dismiss these challenges by defending ourselves or arguing with Scriptures that are only pleasing to the ears.

The nature of chaos and storms can shake our sanity and push us to our boundaries. It was never easy.

This year, I was challenged in my workplace. The experience was unsettling, difficult, unfair, depressing, and very disappointing. This prompted me to consider transitioning to another path. One of the options was going to Spain.

As we navigated through this circumstance, God provided people who supported us. They helped us process our documents and connected us with people who could share ideas and help us work through the requirements. Some encouraged us, prayed for us, and prayed with us. Others helped us remain positive throughout the experience.

And I thought to myself, I see the great love of God again.

Consequently, I see the absolute fullness of God because no matter how ugly, chaotic, and unsettling the situation may be, I found help. I found support. I lack nothing because the presence of God is reassuring.

Thus, we can say that in Christ, there is complete security and spiritual stability.

Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers^[a] of this world, rather than from Christ. ⁹ For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.^[b] 10 So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.- Colossians 2:8-10

The key is to respond with Christlike character. Leave the negative emotions, intrusive thoughts, and desire for revenge to the Lord. Responding with Christlike character allows God to open more than one opportunity. He can open opportunities and doors, so that the only thing remaining for us to do is to seek discernment.

By doing so, we can calculate risks, evaluate different angles, and come up with a wise decision.

Resilience is not enough. We are built to last because our stability does not come from our circumstances. It comes from being deeply rooted in Christ.
